It's many people's favourite Elf movie, but you even the biggest fan might not know everything about it - here are a few fun facts. It's beginning to feel a bit like Christmas, and for many of us that will mean making snow angels for two hours, then going ice skating, eating a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookiedough, followed by a snuggle.

For those of you who aren't cotton-headed ninny muggins, it's arguably one of the best Christmas movies of all time.

But there may still be things you don't know about the Christmas comedy starring Will Ferrell. From who nearly took on the role to the horror movie set that featured, as well as Ferrell's refusal to do a sequel and the genuine reactions to the best jokes. The script for Elf was written back inand screenwriter David Berenbaum had funnyman Jim Carrey in mind. Carrey was pre-Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and was attached to the movie, but it took ten years to get the project up and running.

By then things had changed. Who can forget the memorable scene where Buddy is put in charge of testing jack-in-the-boxes in the workshop? The DVD commentary reveals someone had a remote control to trigger the last one he tested, in order to get just the right scream. The second burp from Buddy after he devoured a whole bottle I m sorry i failed you elf beautiful girl 26 26 fizzy pop was performed by Maurice LaMarche, who voiced Brain on Pinky and the Brain. I create a huge echo chamber with my tongue and my cheeks, and by doing a deep, almost Tuvan rasp in my throat, and bouncing it around off this echo chamber, I create something that sounds very much like a sustained deep burp.

During filming, not only did the lead star stop a lot of traffic as he walked through the Lincoln Tunnel in his costume, but he also reportedly caused a few minor accidents. Sorry guys. He told The Guardian: "I killed the idea of a sequel. It's not that he's against sequels. Later he said: "I just think it would look slightly pathetic if I tried to squeeze back in the elf tights: Buddy the middle-aged elf. According to the film's DVD commentary, an old trick was used called 'forced perspective' to make the jolly little helpers look small.

For the North Pole scenes two sets were built, the larger for the elves and the smaller to make Buddy and Santa look big. Despite the director going to great lengths to use practical effects when it came to snow it was a different story. You can probably already guess this was the case since Ferrell is insanely good at throwing them Ferrell couldn't afford to make any mistakes as he filmed the scene where Buddy is being chased around by Santa. It had to be done in one take, as it would be too difficult to rebuild the set. Director Jon Favreau said much of the music in the film was added when he realised what a great singer Zooey Deschanel was.

In an interview much later Ferrell said: "I have some experience playing Santa Claus … Chris Kattan was my elf at this outdoor mall in Pasadena for five weeks, passing out candy canes. It was hilarious because little kids could care less about the elf. They just come right to Santa Claus. So by the second weekend, Kattan had dropped the whole affectation he was doing and was like Ferrell makes a face of bitter boredom'Santa's over there.

The little elf was originally going to be played by twin boys, both with blonde curly hair. There was one issue though, they couldn't perform. The team wanted them to smile and crawl on cue, but they cried, all. Buddy loves a diet of sugary goodies, but it took its toll on actor Will. He suffered from a lot of headaches and struggled to sleep. He said in an interview: "That was tough. I ingested a lot of sugar in this movie and I didn't get a lot of sleep. I constantly stayed up. But anything for the movie, I'm there. If it takes eating a lot of maple syrup, then I will—if that's what the job calls for.

The stop motion Christmas special from influenced Favreau who wanted the same winter wonderland feel. The team got permission for the links and was given permission to use the ature snowman. Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie in the classic Christmas movie inmade a cameo as Ming the Elf.

Yes, even the director got in on the action! It's common for Favreau to appear in his own films. In Elf he's the doctor, but that's not the only role he took on.

Favreau provided voices for some of the stop-animatin characters too. The old mental hospital in Vancouver provided the set for Walter's apartment and some scenes from Gimbals toy department. The department store takes up a whole block in Manhattan. In Elf it was digitally altered to look like Gimbels.

Gimbels was actually a real department store once upon a time and a rival for Macy's Gimbels is seen here and in Miracle on 34th Street, but it closed its doors in in its th year. We see some of the mess Buddy causes, but there was even more that ended up on the cutting room floor. Favreau thought it was important to be on location as much as possible. Buddy was bullied in early storylines. His motivation for seeking his dad was because he was being bullied by the other elves.

Favreau wanted this taken out, and pushed for its removal. He said the North Pole elves were better as warm and kind. The Godfather star plays Walter, mostly thanks to his stern persona. Favreau wanted someone who wouldn't break when Ferrell went full Elf on them.

Caan took it seriously, but when it came to the blood test scene Caan couldn't help but laugh. In the film they capture the moment - if you look he turns away from camera as Farrell is pricked by a needle so he doesn't ruin the take. The last set piece on the Elf shoot was the mailroom sequence, but the studio wasn't sure about it. Mark Acheson who plays Buddy's drinking buddy says: "I'm 26 years old", but the studio said he didn't look it.

Favreau had cast Acheson before, in a role that was cut, so pushed back saying it was part of the joke. When in New York Ferrell strutted around as Buddy. When the shooting was coming to an end it was just Ferrell, Favreau and one cameraman. The trio travelled around to get Buddy into mischievous sitations. He leapfrogged across a pedestrian walk, accepted flyers and got his shoes shines - all made it into the movie montage.
